All About Cannabis Flavonoids

To date, researchers have found over 480 different compounds within the cannabis plant, mostly terpenes, cannabinoids, and flavonoids. While cannabinoids and terpenes have grown in popularity, flavonoids are not discussed as much.

Here, we’ll go over what the therapeutic effects are of this, and also why it’s something to look at if you’re trying to enhance your cannabis experience, in order to make t the best that it can be.

What are They

Simply put, flavonoids are considered phytonutrients that are found in all veggies and fruits and is responsible for the color of the fruits and veggies too.

They do help flowers get pollinators, or also to protect the plant from UV ray damage, or disease and pests too!

There are over 6000 differ kinds of flavonoids out there and some are even unique to different plants as well.

For example, cannabis plants also contain flavonoids that are found nowhere else, and these are called cannanflavens.

They are responsible for the colors that you see in the cannabis plant. For example, those that are a rich purple color have a lot of anthocyanins and anthoxanthins in it.

Flavonoids also may offer different benefits too, including reducing inflammation, cancer, anti-inflammatory, and other effects that offer neuroprotection too.

The entourage Effect

Right now, most to the research done on this is mostly based on what’s called the entourage effect. This is the claim that each of these compounds are able to work together, to create the best therapeutic along with psychoactive results that they can.

On their own, they’re only half as strong, but together, this creates something incredibly potent that a lot of people enjoy.

Right now though, most of this I still in the research territory, and there is some different studies done to ensure that the cannabis flower changes, enhances the effects, and also the pathways in which this is done.

The Future of Cannabis Research

While there has been a lot of studies currently on terpenes, right now, flavonoids is something that is not studied enough.

For the most part, most of the efforts have been on the compounds, but we may see a sudden change in the way that the research goes from here on out.

Right now, the current research is looking at how this might work to provide different pain relief. It also may be found in different green superfoods and plants, and it can provide a lot of beneficial results.

Could it help with pain relief though? All the way back in 1986, a researcher named Marilyn Barrett was trying to isolate two major cannaflavins in order to ensure that there is enough potent effects.

These usually are strong in it of itself, but she found that they could be more potent than those that are put out by aspirin.

The problem though is that while there is research, it’s very small, with only .15% of studies done on cannabis being that subject. That means that a lot of marijuana needs to be looked at, and it does need to be consumed in heavy amounts in order to get the effects.

Some research has worked around this to engineer these cannaflavins separately from the plant itself. Through successful identification of the gees in this, the researchers have been able to produce these as they’re isolated.

They’ve bene used in other ways though in the form of cannabis alternatives for NSAIDs, and this might be something that a lot of people are looking at as an alternative to rely on, especially if they want to stop taking aspirin, Advil, and ibuprofen as well.

How medical Cannabis is the Alternative to Other Substances

With more and more people accepting medical cannabis for what it is and turning to therapies that are cannabis based as a way to have a different way to treat conditions instead of using drugs, you might wonder whether or not it creates some disconnect.

In a way, it does.  While this is good for people to get the help that they deserve, if you don’t have guidance on what to take from doctors, a lot of patients then get left to make their own treatment programs, through the usage of trial and error, and this is usually based on information from sources that aren’t always reliable.  Another big thing that comes into this, is that even our doctors aren’t fully aware of the different kinds of medical cannabis that’s out there, and they might prescribe the wrong thing. There is more research now than ever that supports the therapy that’s there for medical cannabis, but some people are resistant to accepting this.

Cannabis over Pills

A lot of times, people want a solution that’s a little bit different from just having a pill. That’s why cannabis has become so popular.

Cannabis has been available in certain countries for over a decade medically, and people could get this through different therapies, and medical cannabis is even deductible, and some of the synthetic ones are covered too.

In a survey that included over 2700 people, the people who responded asked about the PCP’s knowledge on the subject, how they communicated with the PCP regarding the cannabis that they had, and also, the authorization necessary to give cannabis as a solution rather than medications.

About seven percent of those who were surveyed were able to get cannabis directly through their PCP.

When they spoke about the knowledge that their PCP had on cannabis, over 80% of the people said that their PCP knew a lot about it, and on an average level, they were able to get the cannabis integrated into the treatment that are necessary for people to survive and overcome ailments, and they felt confident with this.

Some have even said that they substituted using cannabis rather than regular drugs, including tobacco too, and this was over half of the responders.  Some people did struggle though, with over 30% of the people who responded noted that they had some delay in offering the information that they had to their PCP, and even some noted that their PCP didn’t know about the substitution of this.

In a more recent survey that was done in Denmark, over half of the people who responded mentioned that they used medical cannabis rather than drugs, and almost all of them were able to get cannabis through the prescriptions of their doctor’s provision.

This is something that’s even helped with the opioid use, and some have even said that they’ve found cannabis to be way more effective for their problems, and over 90% of the people there said that cannabis was a lot better for them to tolerate than normal opioids.

With that said, it’s not perfect. In some developing locations, it was found that cannabis still has a long way to go, with some people learning to prescribe it themselves, rather than wait on a doctor. This is something that’s still very informal behavior in certain parts.

But, with this in mind, it shows the new changes that are happening in the world of cannabis. More people are able to get the help they need now more than ever before, offering some new ways to improve their health.
