Right now, there is no drug interactions between cannabis along with metronidazole, but this is also for when you use it orally or topically with metrogel. Medical cannabis can be used for treating skin disorders in inflammation of the skin area. 

What metronidazole is 

This is basically sold under a name called Flagyl, and it’s an anti-protozoal and antibiotic type of medication. You can get it topically, orally, or through an injection via an IV. This is used to help with pelvic inflammatory disease, bacterial infections such as bacterial vaginosis, or endocarditis.  It’s part of the nitroimidazole class, so it will inhibit the synthesis of nucleic acid by creating nitroso radical, and then disrupts the microbial DNA cells. 

The side effects of this do include metallic tastes in mouth, nausea, issues with appetite, and headaches too. Some of the severe effects can include a headache that’s persistent and severe, a painful and stiff neck, eye pain along with vision changes which are sudden, a sore throat, a fever that’s persistent, unusual bruising and bleeding, stomach pain that’s severe, and nausea along with vomiting that’s persistent. In some cases, this can be due to drug interactions, or possibly an allergy to metronidazole. 

Benefits and drawbacks of mixing 

While cannabis does have some effects that are immunomodulatory due to the compounds within it, currently this does not interact with the current mechanisms that metronidazole uses, and what’s been found thus far. 

The benefits of this can include how it helps people., for example, this is a powerful anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, and also antifungal, and it can help with eczema, acne, psoriasis, and also helps with staph infection and MRSA. 

It also can help with improving antibiotic resistance, which is something that cannabis can help with. If you already struggle with the effects of medications, you can do so through this.

Are there any drawbacks? Usually, you find out that there is some kind of reaction, but currently there’s no known possible risks that may come about with this. It’s important however, that the immunomodulatory aspects of the cannabinoids can possibly mess with the mechanisms within metronidazole, but this is something that’s still being discovered, as many people haven’t found it yet. 

Can it help? 

It can actually help in fact. Cannabis that’s used medically can actually be used to help reduce the reliance on metronidazole or Metrogel, and this is something that’s good if you’d like to reduce the topicals that you use. It also can help with appetite loss, nausea, and the headaches that a person may face. 

While it’s best to talk to a doctor about this before starting, it is of note that this does have a lot of great benefits.
